Originally I took these pictures in black and white film in a corner of a small town in Mexico. While I was living there I was using a local photographic laboratory and was amazed by all the photographic services that this small lab was providing. One of these services was 'illuminating' (colouring) old or black and white pictures. I sent these images to be illuminated and the colouring decision rested solely in the local technician. Back in London I printed these images and pasted them in an advertising pallet in a corner near my house.
